Lets all Co-operate

As you know from last week I was ill,  and the house is upside-down because we are decorating and it was Kelly's birthday- so we had to celebrate that about 3 times. All these factors added up to very little gaming time so our list of games this week was pitifully short.

I was however able to catch up with a lot of gaming podcasts last week, so in light of International Podcast Day which was the day before this episode released I thought I would do a round up of some of the many gaming podcasts I listen to, including our fellow inside voices podcasts The Five By, Greatway Games and Ding and Dent as well as many more!

For Pillow talk this week we discuss Co-operative games and have a think about why we like them, how does luck in co-op games affect our enjoyment and what we think of the alpha gamer issue and Kelly asks the question - is a co-op still a co-op if you play it solo?

If you want to hear more from us in the week the check us our on our social media using the links at the bottom of the page. Also this week we will be on the Botch Games Podcast (Episode 78 I believe) so check that out too!

Also check out www.insidevoicesnetwork.com for other awesome podcasts!

  1. Resistance/Avalon is one of my favourite games - the first social deduction game I met, and still the one I reach for first.

I play a fair few co-op games, and I think the dominant gamer problem is mostly a social/group one: some people are going to spoil a game by being controlling. (And some by being passive and not doing anything until they're prompted.) But in different groups they wouldn't be a problem. It's the group that needs to sort that out more than the game; the game just brings it to the front.

Some games have roles for the expert player - have you tried the Bioterrorist variant? Of course that's less co-op than standard Pandemic.

I'm another person who prefers Forbidden Island to Forbidden Desert - to me the later game just feels over-complex for what it is.

Favourite co-op game: probably Flash Point Fire Rescue.

    1. I've not tried Flash Point yet!

We have tried the Bioterrorist variant but I didn't care than much for it. I feel like the game is already working against you without having another player to deal with! I do like that hidden role game in other games though, especially spectre ops.

  2. A role player doesn't want to load up the newest game and find to their dismay that storyline consists of the flimsy idea that they have to kill heaps of things to get enough experience to kill the apparent bad guy. click here
